About Emma.

Emma Thorp is a contemporary artist living in Hervey Bay, Queensland.

She graduated from Latrobe University, Bendigo with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and works in coloured pencil, digital drawing, and animation.

Emma’s work is often self-narrative and records her daily experiences.

From 2019 to 2022 her show early, which focused on her experiences with her extremely premature son and his subsequent diagnoses with ASD and ADHD, toured multiple regional galleries in Queensland.

In 2022 she undertook a daily drawing practice where she created a digital drawing with a small accompanying statement for 365 consecutive days. This has resulted in a solo show that will take place at Gympie Regional Gallery in 2024.

She has been a finalist in in the Lyn McRae Drawing Prize, Swan Hill Print and Draw, the Du Rietz Art Prize, the Queensland Regional Art Awards, The Lethbridge 20,000, the Ravenswood Women’s art prize, the National Still life Award art prize, the M16 Artspace Drawing Prize, and was the winner of the Du Rietz Art prize in 2022.

Education

1993 -1996

Bachelor of Fine Arts, Latrobe University, Bendigo.

Majoring in Printmaking.

One year of this degree was completed at the University of Oregon during a university exchange program.

  • 2023 Commissioned by renowned artistJo Williams to create a projection animation of her book “Fee” inclusive of audio recording and editing.

 

  • 2022 Commissioned by the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery to create a series of 3 Art postcards for the gallery shop, and to produce a Children’s Artwalk Map.

 

  • 2021“Invested” animated short (5 minutes) commissioned for the Bundaberg Regional Gallery.

 

  • 2020 Online Digital Residency with Fraser Coast Creates “Covid and Me” for the                       Fraser Coast Regional Council.
