A wet start to the month and beautiful sunsets are what I remember of March. The kids settled into their school routines whilst I organised our holiday for the end of the Month. We don't go away very often, but tied a trip to Heron Island on to the end of my workshop and artist talk at Gladstone Regional gallery. We are so glad that we did.

Storms in the area today, we even got a government order to collect our children from school because of the unpredictable forecast. That has never happened before. We have had a lot of rain but it is over for now. The weather warning is in place for the next 48 hours, so we may have more to come….

I fondly remember watching storms on the veranda with my family as a child and those warm memories prompted me to drag my children from their respective caves yesterday afternoon. We ooh’d and ahhh’d at the flashes of lightning and rumbling skies and I hope that they now have another of their own fond memories.

Anyone else feeling a little more vulnerable like me? I know masks are an absolute pain, but it seems wild to think that they were essential yesterday, but not today.

I got a call to let me know my daughter had left her sports bag at home. I got in my car and raced it to the aquatic centre. Her school bus and I arrived at the same time. She said “Hi”, took the bag and turned and walked back to her group. No thank you, no acknowledgement of my amazing timing or what a wonderful mother I am. No hug. No kiss. No loud declaration of love. Teenager. I’m not sad about it, teens are self absorbed and she was already having a tough day, so I didn’t call her out like I normally would have. It actually made me smile and remember what a little shit I was as a teen before I grew up and became so awesome.

My son comes in for a cuddle every morning at 6. It is one of the highlights of my day. I know to cherish them while they last. And yes, our dog pushes my husband to the very edge of the bed every night.

COVID has definitely put a dampener on all of my friendships. It was so nice to catch up again, albeit by phone.

After working hard in the garden I often go for a swim to cool down. I always ask the kids if they want to join me. Sometimes they say yes and we splash and fool around. Sometimes they say no and I swim on my own and soak in the quiet and tranquility.

I took Penny to meet her new sitter and see if she was comfortable in a new space. There were two dogs that she ignored, but she was quite enamoured by all the mice, rats and Guinea pigs. When she does go to stay,I think the only problem we will have is getting her to come home. The rats, by the way, were not floating in the sky, but all resting in tiny bespoke hammocks safely in the cages and behind a baby gate. All I could see were little noses twitching away.
